The x-ray is a huge part of modern dentistry. As the practice has evolved so to have the machines used to give more accurate and quicker diagnosis. The x-ray machines that you now are nothing like they were when Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen discovered x-rays existed in the 1800’s. Since then advancements have far improved how these rays are used in many fields including dentistry.
At James A. Vito. a Wayne dentist, we are using the latest improvement in dental X-ray to help diagnose and decide what services are best to help keep your smile healthy and strong.
When x-rays were first used as a tool in dentistry, exposure times were long which would have held some pretty extensive health risks. However, when the medical uses for x-rays were first discovered by Roentgen no one knew the health risks the rays could cause. It was a massive leap forward in medical diagnostic tools.
The 1920 dental x-ray was an extremely efficient tool for diagnosing issues and in 1930 this model was improved even further. It became more accurate, flexible and easy to adjust. It also allowed for the standardization of technique.
If you go into your dentist office today, you will probably notice digital x-ray machines. Allowing results within minutes and extremely limited exposure to harmful radiation these machines are the standard in diagnosis a variety of issues for modern dentists
Digital Panoramic X-ray machines also offer better views of the entire jaw and teeth alignment allowing for better treatment. Problems can be caught and diagnosed sooner meaning treatment can begin before more damage can occur causing health issues.
